Toastie studio

Toastie Studio is a single person design company run by me, Stephanie Fermor. I develop websites and also make handmade toys and gifts.

Toastie Studio was set up in August 2009 and since then I have undertaken a range of projects, from small flash applications to large content management websites. In August 2010 Toastie Studio also started selling a collection of handmade soft toys and gifts.

More about me

As a child I loved making things, drawing things, glitter, rainbows and unicorns! When my family bought their first computer I played on it all the time. My school did not have computer classes so I taught myself how to make websites and simple programmes. When I told my parents I wanted to study Web development at University it was not all that surprising! I finished University, receiving a Second class honours from the University of Wales.

After finishing university I worked part-time for Randstad employment agency and as a free-lance web developer. In July 2009 I moved from the UK to the Netherlands where I am pursuing my career as a free-lance web developer. In my spare time I would sew, and always gave handmade gifts at Christmas and for birthdays. I decided it would be nice to share my creations with more people and so decided to start selling them on my website and Etsy. A lot of my work is inspired by every day things and by my pet rabbit, Tulip.

Inspiration

Everyone has something that inspires them. I often find inspiration in the things around me, and in things I read. Every Wednesday I post on my blog about the new idea I have seen, and sources of inspiration over the last few days. You can read my blog here.

Below are some of the best or most recent sources of inspiration I have found in written text.

There is a place where dreamers go. Where crazy flights of fancy are valued above all else. Where the only good idea is an idea that's new born. Where dreams can become real. It's called The Patent Office, Concept House, the City of Newport — M4, junction 28, first roundabout, and fourth exit. Do you believe in the power of dreams?"
From a magazine advert produced by Honda

“I don’t know. What I do know is that I have a tendency to surprise myself. Ten years ago I was doing bong hits and playing Donkey Kong. I never dreamed of going to college but I did and graduated with honors. And never thought I’d get a job at a real newspaper, but I did. And certainly, I never thought I’d get a girl like Jenny Havens to marry me, but I did.”
